BAILEY
81 Holloway Road, N7 8LT
Fuller's London Pride, Greene King Old Speckled Hen
The Bailey has moved its handpumps to the corner by the main door rather than having them hidden halfway along the bar. They now proudly sport clips for two ales. A popular pub at all times, serving Thai food and showing most major football matches on its various screens although home fans only on an Arsenal home match day.

BARCOSA
54 Holloway Road, N7 8JL
No real ale
Highbury Brewery's tap, taken over by Taylor Walker in 1912. Allied until 1985, when it became the Flounder & Firkin. The Firkins were sold to Punch, under whom it was the Beer House from 2000, then the Tank (an Urban Bar) 2002-4. Someone reported it looked closed on the way to an Arsenal match. It has been open the last couple of Wednesdays. When closed, it has blinds down inside and does look a but uncared for! Still fizz only, a real shadow of its Firkin days.
Formerly Tank, The Beer House, Flounder and Firkin.

An exceptional and sympathetic Wethespoons conversion of a former ABC cinema. This striking building is an oasis in Holloway. The former grandeur of the 1940s cinema is still visible, including a decommissioned projector. Known locally for beer quality and range with great value prices. Full disabled access. Separate family area. Small garden. Full menu served until 23.00. Large no smoking area.

With the general devastation of pubs in N7, it’s good to see one outlet still flying the flag at the corner with Ellington Street. It has received the standard North London makeover – large, mixed size scrubbed tables, comfy chairs, board games and books and a liberal use of candles plus no TV. This all looks to place food more at the forefront – full meals are served Mon to Fri 12 to 3 and Sat/Sun 12 – 4 and all evenings 7 – 10 with full table service. There is a snack menu Tue to Sat 12 – 10. It still retains a number of original features although a lot has gone to create the L shaped open space. Operated by Geronimo Inns who run a number of good London pubs - http://www.geronimo-inns.co.uk/. Recently refurbished. Cask Marque accreditation achieved March 2008.

This pub had comfortable seating and a fake coal fire with the appearance of a large, single-roomed pub until you reach the back, where there is some fantastically carved wooden seating that reaches up to the ceiling, almost like chuch pews. We have been informed that, it has had a lick of paint, new sound system, lighting and stage. Has been bought by the owners of other bar/live music venue/clubs the 12 bar, the intrepid fox, and sin night club. Primarily a music venue with lots of fittings to match, the stage is behind the front window facing the bar. May charge admission fee when music is on.

Pleased to confirm this delightful little backstreet pub is now selling real ale on a permanent basis. A welcome addition to N7. Traditional corner pub. Although close behind North London University, doesn't seem to get too many students in. Generally fairly quiet and restful. New handpumps installed. Landlord expecting new influx of customers with all the new flats built behind Holloway Road tube station in the area leading up to the new recycling factory relocated from the new Arsenal stadium site.

HERBERT CHAPMAN
274-276 Holloway Road, N7 6NE
No real ale
Recently renamed after the Yorkshireman who managed Arsenal in the 1930s when the club won five league championships and two FA Cups either side of his death in 1934. He also famously persuaded the powers that be to alter the name of Gillespie Road tube station to Arsenal. The change of name reflects the fact that Arsenal's move to the Emirates Stadium now brings the pub into the pre-match drinking catchment area. Faucet Inns ex-Wychwood. Confirmed they do not serve real ale. There is a tap there for show only. Our surveyor was told 'only Wetherspoons really serve it these days' when he asked, "He bit his tongue".
