Coronet, Holloway Road, wins Pub of the Season Award

Congratulations are due to the Coronet, Holloway Road, N7 which has been chosen as the CAMRA North London Autumn Pub of the Season. This JD Wetherspoon pub is a definite beacon for real ale in what is otherwise not a very dependable area. The pub is listed in the current Good Beer Guide and is a conversion of a former (1940s) cinema, the former grandeur of which is still clearly visible, including a decommissioned projector.

As well as its regulars, it features an ever changing range of up to five guests and over the period of 23rd to 29th July will have a beer festival focussing on beers from the Oakham brewery. Two beers to look out for will be Coronet, a 4% beer with a candy fruit aroma where the subtle taste of berry fruit hoppyness is slowly taken over by a dry hoppy finish. Golden in colour, it uses Challenger, Liberty and Styrian hops. At 7.5%, Attila will pack a punch, it has fruit notes and elder flower on the aroma. There is a taste of red berries and citrus fruit with a long bitter finish. Colour is described as antique gold and it is brewed with Spalt Select, Brewers Gold, Mittlefruh (from Germany) and Magnum hops. That's a lot of hop!

The Pub of the Season award will be presented on the evening of November 6th.
