Get "Wild About Mild".
|
May is CAMRA's Mild month, and in the North London branch area a number of pubs will be helping to promote this traditional style of beer. Milds tend to have a low gravity and hop rate, and hence have a rounder, normally slightly sweeter, and distinctly less bitter taste on the palate than bitters. It is usually, but not always, darker in colour than bitter, through the use of a higher roast malt or caramel. To kick off Mild Month the branch will be having a social on Tuesday 3rd May at the Oakdale Arms in Hermitage Road, N4. On offer will be Tring Brewery's Mansion Mild (a new one I believe), Rudgate's Ruby Mild, Castle Rock's Black Gold and Milton Brewery's Minotaur. Two further branch socials will be held to promote Mild in the branch, on Tuesday 17th May at the Wenlock Arms in Wenlock Road, N1, and on Tuesday 31st May at the Head of Steam in Euston Station Colonnade, NW1. Spot a Mild in a Wild! Competition - let us know where you've seen a mild As part of its campaign to highlight mild as an endangered beer style, CAMRA is running a Spot a Mild in the Wild Competition, where consumers can report back where they have seen mild and in which pub they saw it. All entries will be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning a mystery prize. To enter the competition please complete the form on the CAMRA website - www.camra.org.uk/mild or post them to: Wild About Mild Competition? CAMRA, 230 Hatfield Rd, St Albans, Herts, AL1 4LW. |
