The Apple Of An Irish Eye!

When you think of a drink to celebrate St Patrick's day then you probably think of Irish whisky or a one of the famous dark, rich Irish stouts. But this year's London Drinker Beer & Cider Festival is challenging that perception by having a genuine Irish cider.

Called Double L, after its maker David Llewellyn, it is a bottled conditioned cider. It is made from a mixture of Dabinett, Bramley and desert apples producing a refreshing dry cider, much stronger than the usual draft keg ciders that can be purchased in Britain.

Despite his surname, David is truly Irish and is based outside of Dublin. He has been producing cider as a hobby for around 15 years but went commercial just 4 years ago.

Mick Lewis, the cider manager at the Festival said "David is actually bringing the cider over himself the week before the Festival and this is the first time that the cider has come to Britain. We delighted to be able to offer it to our visitors and we can't think of a better way to commemorate St Patrick's Day, the day the Festival opens, then with a glass of cider".
