New Beer Lovers Guide to Cricket
CAMRA launches another new guide
Beer and cricket have gone hand in hand since the birth of the game.
To celebrate this, CAMRA has published the 'Beer Lover's Guide to Cricket',
the very first book to explore this happy sporting and drinking partnership.
Written by the award winning writer (and current Good Beer Guide Editor),
Roger Protz, the book contains profiles of all the First Class County Grounds
and the best pubs for real ale near each ground. The inspiration for the book
came when Roger paid a visit to the world-famous Bat & Ball pub in Hambledon,
Hampshire, renowned as the birthplace of the modern game.

Roger attended the recent launch of the guide at the Star in St John's Wood
Terrace (above), where he undertook a book signing. Roger is pictured, below (left)
with Adam Chadwick, curator of the MCC museum and library.
The Star is the only pub listed in the Guide in NW8, which of course had to be
represented being the home to Lord’s. The Star is an attractive corner pub with a
central bar and a number of different drinking areas. Stars occur on the metal
trellis work and windows. Look out for the mahogany and marble fireplace and the
odd portrait of a terrier dressed in military garb.
