The Clissold Arms Celebrates its Kinky History
In February, as part of CAMRA’s Pubs Week, CAMRA initiated a programme to celebrate
the impact of pubs in history. North London's very own Clissold Arms in Fortis Green,
N2 was only one of two pubs in London to receive a prestigious plaque. This was
presented by branch chairman John Cryne to landlord John Dick (below) and commemorates
the fact that the pub was the site of the first public performance of Ray and Dave
Davies, the founding members of the Kinks, in December 1960.

The Clissold Arms has various Kinks memorabilia and the pub is continuing with its
musical tradition, the front bar hosting live music. The red ceiling and open coal
effect gas fire also adds to the atmosphere.
The back bar area is split into two by a chimney place, which has a second gas fire,
and the seated section behind leads to outside seating. The half wood paneled walls and
wooden furniture adds to the traditional and welcoming feel of the pub that clearly has
a strong local following.
If you go along you may catch a glimpse of Ray Davies, who stills pops in from time to
time. The beers on sale are Courage Best, Fuller's London Pride, Greene King Abbot Ale
and Young's Bitter. The pub has a car park and the nearest tube is East Finchley.
