North London Pub News

The Narrow Boat in St Peter's Street Islington has been closed since January, and has now re-opened with a new bar at towpath level, below the existing street-level bar. Attractively decorated, there are large windows looking out onto the canal from both floors. When visited recently, four ales were available including Harveys and Adnams, all in excellent condition. A wide range of good food is available.

The owners of the Narrow Boat have sold the Pakenham, in Pakenham St WC1. The new management are also enthusiastic about real ale, and a good selection of ales is provided.

The Prince Albert in Elia Street, N1, has reopened and is once again selling real ale - currently Bass and a guest beer. A small cosy two room pub with old wooden flooring, and etched glass shutters between the back room and the bar. Quiet in the evenings.

The Alexandra in Fortis Green, N2 has closed. The Clissold Arms across the road offers a good range of real ales.

The Kings Head in Crouch End is now offering an excellent and varying range of real ales, typically two or three in the main bar, and one downstairs, and also an interesting range of bottled Belgian beers.

For a large range of Belgian and German beers, try Quinns in Kentish Town Road, Camden. On a recent visit they were advertising over 50, with several on draught, in addition to the real ales.

The Litten Tree, 341 Holloway Road N7 has reopened as the Holloway after a year being closed, but has no real ale.
