London Regional Inventory Booklet
by Jane Jephcote
A booklet containing descriptions of the interiors of all the pubs in London which are included on the CAMRA's London Regional Inventory of Pub Interiors of Special Historic Interest (133 pubs) has now been published. Edited by Geoff Brandwood and myself, it is illustrated with colour photographs and costs £3.50 (plus £1 postage and packing).
Robin Forshaw-Wilson, CAMRA Regional Director for London says, ' It's frightening how much we have lost. This new guide is a wake-up call to bring attention to the problem and help people seek out those pubs which do still have significant, genuinely old work inside.'
Co-editor Geoff Brandwood, an architectural historian, says, 'CAMRA is calling on brewers, pub-owning companies and local planning authorities to recognise how rare authentic historic pub interiors are and to see and use them as cultural and commercial assets. If you have something special, why try - at great expense - to turn it into a pub looking like most of the rest?'
You can purchase the book from the CAMRA website www.camra.org.uk or at London CAMRA beer festivals, or at the Royal Oak, Tabard Street, SE1.
Reproduced from the Full Pint, Issue 26.
