Welsh Dragon Flies Off With Prize

Gwynt y Ddraig Farmhouse Cider

Gwynt-y-Ddraig from Glamorgan has won CAMRA's cider of the year award. Although the English translation is Dragon's Breath, this straw colour cider with golden hues is anything but fiery! This is an easy drinking, well-balanced cider with a good appley aroma and a slightly dry finish. Close behind in the scoring was Upton Sweet from Oxfordshire followed by Dunkerton's Medium.

The winner of the Perry Award was Gwatkin Blakney Red, with the runner up being Summers (which won the best cider / perry award at the 2004 London Drinker Festival, which just goes to show what great taste London Drinkers have) followed by Butford Farm Dry awarded the bronze. Gwatkins was described as having a wonderful clean, fruit flavour and aroma with a pleasant rounded aftertaste. Such a shame that availability of these delicious drinks is so poor in London.
