Fuller's Top Two For Xmas
It's that time of year again when Fuller's releases its limited edition bottle-conditioned Vintage Ale. The beer, which has an ABV of 8.5%, has been produced since 1997 and is currently on sale in selected pubs and supermarkets. Although it has been produced for the past seven years, each vintage always has its own distinct flavour according to the variations in the blend of malt and hops.
This year's beer currently has a nose bursting with fresh citrus and pineapple aromas that Fuller's beers are often noted for. These flavours derive from Challenger, Target and Northdown hops and Fuller's own unique yeast. As the beer will only be a few months old at Christmas, it will still have malty sweetness in taste, which will balance the bitterness of the hop. As the beer ages, however, the after taste will get longer with maturity but the final sensation, like that of a whisky or brandy, should be a warming effect from the alcohol that is perfect for the winter months. It will in fact last for around 10 years and improve with maturity. It is worth investing in a few bottles to allow you to savour the changing flavour as the beer ages.
Launched in 1999, Jack Frost is again available until 30 January 2004, as one of Fuller's seasonal draught beers this winter. It is a warming yet deliciously light ale, which is exceptionally moreish and delivers a robust, yet refreshing flavour that lingers long on the palate. With a hint of red in the amber brew, Jack Frost is perfectly balanced - both malty and smooth and benefits from a distinct fruitiness provided by the added blackberries, which compliment the refreshingly hoppy finish. Fuller's winter brew has an ABV of 4.5% and provides consumers with a highly drinkable alternative to keep out the cold during the frosty months ahead.
