Autumn Pub of the Season
by Laurence Fryer
On 19th November, North London CAMRA travelled to its eastern border to present an award to a Wetherspoon's pub that was big before all other Wetherspoon pubs were big! The cavernous Rochester Castle on Stoke Newington High Street has been packing in the punters for many a year.
This GBG listed pub offers up to ten cask conditioned beers to the thirsty drinkers of trendy "Stokey", as it's affectionately known*. A long-standing JDW house, the pub has in its not too distant past hosted up- and-coming punk rock bands whilst always maintaining a sense of decorum. The large vaulted skylight in the centre section gives a welcome lighter feel to drinkers and diners alike.

Recognising the hard work put in by all the Management and Staff, NL CAMRA presented the pub with its "Pub of the Season" award. Pictured left to right, Laurence Fryer (North London CAMRA activist and local resident), Branch Chair Mick Lewis (aka Chairman Mick) and Jo who received the award on behalf of Simon the manager, who is currently on leave. Jo is also pictured below with two of her crew.
