Champion Beer of Britain
For the first time since the competition started, a Scottish brewer has taken the supreme CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain title.
The winning beer comes from the Caledonian brewery in Edinburgh and its Deuchars IPA, a 3.8% amber coloured beer with a bitter and hoppy aftertaste.
London brewers figured well in the competition. Young's ordinary Bitter and bottled Special London Ale both reached the finals of their categories, quite an achievement in itself, while Fuller's came away with a Gold, Silver and Bronze. Gold was won in the bottle-conditioned beer category by 1845, Silver came for ESB in the Strong Bitter category, and a joint Bronze for London Pride in the Best Bitter category.
