Celebrate the Best 18th Birthday Party in 2002

For the London Drinker Beer Festival is coming of age...!

London Drinker Beer Festival 2002

This Festival is one of the very few in London that hasn't changed its venue, having always been held at the Camden Centre in Bidborough Street near St Pancras Station. The Festival started in 1985 with 40 real ales. Of the beers on sale then, several are unfortunately from companies no longer brewing.

These include Gibbs Mew from Salisbury, Wiltshire; Morrells from Oxford and Wem from Shropshire. But the good news is that many of those present then continue to brew good beer, not least the three London brewers: Fullers, Pitfield and Youngs.

Perhaps the most striking change is the number of imported beers the Festival had back then; a mere thirteen bottled beers compared to the dozens now available and, of course, the popular draft beers. But many of the thirteen beers still make regular appearances at the Festival even now, such as Westmalle and Rodenbach.

And the one thing that has not changed is the food. Unlike most festivals, the London Drinker Beer Festival still produces its own food, lovingly prepared by CAMRA members who believe that good beer deserves good food.

So put the dates in the diary and come and help us celebrate our 18th birthday.

Wednesday and Thursday: lunchtime (12-3pm) free; evenings (5-10.30pm): £2.50.

Friday: 12-1pm: £1.50; then £2.50 until 10.30pm. Members £1 off any entrance fee.

If you are not a member and fancy joining, then see page 3 and get two free pints at the Festival.
