Great British Beer Festival Preview

This summer, CAMRA is celebrating its 10th GBBF at Olympia. The biggest pub in the world brings you the largest range of real ales imaginable together with live music, good food and great company.

The evening live bands (supported by Safeway) include the Tom Robinson Band on Wednesday, John Otway Big Band on Thursday and Dr Feelgood on Friday. But if you fancy a real rave from the grave, pop along on Saturday afternoon for the Animals and Friends. Besides the 300+ British real ales, there are hundreds of imported beers from the all over the world including the US and Europe. There are few other places in the country where you can sample a German bock, American stout and the famous lambics of Belgium without moving from the bar. For those who like things a little fruity there is a huge range of traditional cider and perry. There are so few pubs in the country stocking perry (like cider but made from pears) so why not take this opportunity at the GBBF? And there is plenty of fun to be had, why not try your hand at table skittles, shut the box or our infamously addictive tombolas where you only need a one anywhere on your ticket to win, where 'every one is a winner'.

The Great British Beer Festival has so much to offer for a great day out, for more details take a look at www.gbbf.org (or phone 01727 867201) and make sure you don't miss this unique event! The Festival opens on Tuesday night (31st July) and is open two sessions on Wednesday, all day Thursday and Friday and until 7pm on Sat 4th August.

Hardy & Hanson's Quiz Great British Beer Festival

The Great British Beer Festival is five days of good beer, live music and fun, so what could be more appropriate than a pub quiz. This year, Nottingham's Hardy & Hansons Brewery, famous for their Kimberley Ales, are the Festival's pub quiz sponsors, and the event will take place in the National Hall on the afternoon of Saturday 4th August. With many superb prizes to be won there is everything to play for as well as having some fun and a few pints. The prizes include a brewery trip for 8 people, clocks, polo and tee shirts, water jugs, a framed brewery print and, of course, free beer. Two free houses, the Wenlock Arms in Wenlock Street in London N1 and the Magpie & Crown, High Street, Brentford are both putting up a prize of £30 worth of beer to be spent in their pub, guaranteeing a good session out.

There will be a prize for the quiz team with the best name. So why not come along and have a go. The entry fee is only £5 per team and the quiz will last about half an hour. The entry forms and full details of the prizes will be available on the day from the Information Stand at the Festival.
