North London Fullers trip
by Gary White
Surely, one of the best brewery tours available for a CAMRA member must be a to take a trip down to Fullers at Chiswick.
Arriving in the Mawson Arms (adjacent to the brewery) at 2 pm, with eager anticipation and palates to satiate, Fullers guide John Holloway took 15 branch members on a tour and tasting one balmy Friday afternoon in May.

Tours start in the Hock Cellar, which has a bar, a mini museum and screening area for watching the Fuller, Smith and Turner company video, which highlights the history, tradition and culture of London's famous brewer. Guests then receive an excellent tour of the brewery, with numerous anecdotes being delivered by John en route, as you progress from the mashing and fermentation area to the racking line. Tours end back in the Hock Cellar with an opportunity to sample the regular cask ales and the bottled beers, such as 1845, London Vintage Ale and the premium barley wine, Golden Pride.
Readers may be interested to know that Fullers yeast culture has its origin many decades ago and is carefully protected in a 'no go' laboratory area. Dry hopping still takes place on the racking line with the Chiswick and ESB ales.
Thanks again to John and Fullers for their hospitality.
