North Star Burns Bright

Looking for somewhere to meet before visiting the cinema complex or one of the myriad of Chinese restaurants along the Finchley Road? Then the North Star at 104, Finchley Road (south of the tube) might be your answer. The pub was refurbished with split levels. One in the main bar which, aided by the maroon ceiling, gives a more comfortable feel to the pub than previously. There are two fireplaces crowned with large glass mirrors and the dark wood pillars and furniture add to the atmosphere. Tucked away at the back of the pub is the other split level. An intimate dark area favoured by younger visitors. Upstairs, there is a bar that often has stand up comedy. Contact: 07990 795 477 for details. The beer range is generally pretty standard for a TJ Bernard house with Courage Best and Directors, Greene King IPA and Theakstons Best. But be prepared by the guest beer, which is often very unusual from a small or micro brewery. The pubs closeness to the new cinema complex just north of Finchley Road tube makes it a good alternative to the fizzy pubs. And the good range of pub grub makes it ideal for a quick bite to eat if you don't have time for a restaurant. Worth a try.
