Sponsor Profile
Our sponsors for this edition - The 'Wenlock Arms' of Hoxton
We are very grateful to the 'Wenlock Arms' for their sponsorship of our first
edition. If you have never visited the 'Wenlock', then you just don't know what
you're missing. Will Williams and Steve Barnes purchased the former Courage pub
in January 1994, after it had been run down for some time. They both had a
background in engineering and being long-standing CAMRA members with a passion
for real ale, they wanted to try to fulfil a long-held ambition to open their
own free house. It was to be a true Free House, not tied to any breweries and
able to offer their own choice of real ales to thirsty beer enthusiasts. And
how their vision has been fulfilled...
The pub has gone from strength to strength since its inception. Twice voted
North London Branch 'Pub of the Year' and the current Branch 'Pub of the Season'
for Autumn 1999, many of us wish more pubs were like this. There is an
ever-changing range of real ales, normally 5 or 6 - the term 'guest beer' is
irrelevant here really! You'll find many beers that are rarely seen in London.
Milds are usually available, there is La Trappe (on draught!) and a good range
of bottle conditioned imported beers.
Good food is available and there is even the bonus of occasional live Jazz music
and pub quizzes. A real community pub, with a warm welcome, a great atmosphere
and superb beer.
The 'Wenlock Arms' is at 26 Wenlock Road, N1. Tel: 0171 608 3406.
