Welcome To Our First Edition!

Many thanks for picking up the first edition of 'The Full Pint'. For some time now we have thought about producing a free newsletter for the north London area, so that we may bring you, the real ale drinker, up-to-date information about our Campaign in your area and all matters relating to real ale drinking in north London.

The London region and suburbs have been covered by the 'London Drinker' for many years. Many of you may have bought the LD in pubs around the south-east region. This still has the most comprehensive coverage of real ale news and chat for London but we felt that we need a publication to target the north London area specifically, as there are many issues where we thought we needed a local focus, given the size of London and its variety of drinking establishments.

The North London Branch covers most of the area west and northwest of the River Lee, including Boroughs of Haringey, Islington, Camden and parts of Hackney - all the 'N' and 'NW' postcodes outside Enfield and Barnet and also including parts of central London in the Bloomsbury area, WC1.

What goes on in your area of CAMRA?

We really have two main functions. Firstly, we act as a campaigning body for the preservation and furtherance of real ale. This includes brewery visits and occasional out-of-London trips and the running of our own beer festival at the 'Camden Centre' in Kings Cross, every March.

The second aim is a socialising one. We meet every Tuesday for a social event, usually based around one or two pubs (or sometimes a crawl) in easily-accessible areas of north and central London. We also have alternative activities such as weekend country walks and historical beer crawls in central London. Twice a year we have a 'branch curry night' - which speaks for itself really!

Please contact me if you want any further details on social activities in your area or if you have any suggestions for social activities — we always want more active members as there are areas where we would like more input — are there hidden gems of pubs out there that we don't know anything about?
